  • LightWeight Concrete | Cherry Tree Technical Services L.L.C

Foam concrete, also known as lightweight aerated concrete, variable density concrete, cellular concrete, and lightweight or ultra-lightweight concrete, is defined as a cementitious material with a minimum of 20% by volume of mechanically entrained foam in the plastic mortar What is foam concrete? Foam concrete, also known as lightweight aerated concrete, variable density concrete, cellular concrete, and lightweight or ultra-lightweight concrete, is defined as a cementitious material with a minimum of 20% by volume of mechanically entrained foam in the plastic mortar. As mostly no coarse aggregate is used for production of foam concrete the correct term would be called indeed mortar instead of concrete. Sometimes it may also be called as “foamed cement” or “foam cement” because of mixture of cement and foam without any fine aggregate. However, foam concrete is not to be confused with autoclaved concrete, which is manufactured offsite using entirely different methods. The density of foam concrete usually varies from 400 kg/m3 to 1,600 kg/m3. The density is normally controlled by substituting fully or part of the fine aggregate with foam. Displacing concrete with air The variable density is normally described in kg per m3, where regular concrete is 2,400 kg/m3. Variable density can be as low as 300 kg/m3, although at this density it would have no structural integrity at all. By replacing the dense heavy concrete with air, the variable density reduces strength to increase thermal and acoustical insulation. There are many competing products, e.g. foaming agents that resemble shaving cream, to mix air bubbles in with the concrete, but all accomplish the same outcome: to displace concrete with air. Applications Foam concrete can be produced with dry densities of 400 to 1,600 kg/m3, with 28-day strengths of approximately 1 to 10 N/mm2 respectively. Foam concretes are fire resistant and, their thermal and acoustical insulation properties make them ideal for a broad range of purposes, from insulating floors and roofs, to void filling. It is also particularly useful for trench re-instatements. Applications of foam concrete include, but are not limited to: Blocks and panels for walls Levelling Floors Road subbases and maintenance Bridge abutments and repairs Ground stabilisation Roof insulation Foam concrete is a highly versatile material, featuring benefits like: Weight reduction of superstructure using foam concrete walls: less steel reinforcements required for slabs, columns, beams and foundation due to lesser load. Reduced cost of raw materials: By adding air, enclosed in foam bubbles, the volume of concrete can be increased at very low cost. Environmentally-friendly / Energy savings: Compared to autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), air curing is possible for foam concrete. This saves up to 9 m2 of gas for curing one cubic meter of AAC and therefore protects our environment. Cost reduction for transportation and storage: Less raw materials, very efficient foam concentrate. Faster construction using cast in-situ application improved thermal insulation: Foam concrete can achieve the same insulation results as normal concrete with only 20% of the weight and 10% of raw materials. Improved fire protection: A wall of 13 cm thickness and 1,250 kg/m³ can withstand a fire for 5 hours. A wall of 10 cm thickness and only 400 kg/m³ achieves the same result, due to the air enclosed in the foam concrete. Easy to use/produce/handle. High flowing capability: Can fill hollow spaces. The use of admixtures, cement replacements & fibres are highly encouraged as well as maintaining low, workable water cement ratios. STRUCTURAL POLYPROPYLENE FIBRES (MACRO) Macro synthetic fibres, are made from a blend of polymers and were originally developed to provide an alternative to steel fibres Suitable in aggressive environments where steel could potentially corrode. i.e marine or costal. Increase the post cracking of concrete. Increases the ductility & tensile strength of concrete. Easier to handle than steel fibres. STEEL FIBRES Unlike traditional reinforcement, steel fiber concrete reinforcement actively reinforce every part of the concrete structure, the benefits are: Significantly reduces the risk of cracking. Reduced spalling joint edges. Higher impact resistance. Potential reduction in thickness of concrete. Larger bay sizes. Greater fatigue endurance. TRADITIONAL MESH REINFORCEMENT Wire mesh on concrete functions as reinforcement, preventing crack formation during temperature changes and under flexural loads. When freshly poured concrete sets around wire mesh, it grips onto the mesh, which effectively inhibits its internal movement in the horizontal plane. Years of track record used together with concrete. Readily available. Safe & traditional method for reinforcing concrete.

For external hardstanding areas, the traditional choice has always been tarmac. But tarmac comes with well-known drawbacks—it softens in high heat, cracks under heavy loads, requires frequent resealing, and deteriorates quickly under fuel and oil spills. The CT Exterior Paving is our high-performance concrete alternative, specifically engineered for external industrial and commercial applications Industrial Flooring CT Exterior For external hardstanding areas, the traditional choice has always been tarmac. But tarmac comes with well-known drawbacks—it softens in high heat, cracks under heavy loads, requires frequent resealing, and deteriorates quickly under fuel and oil spills. The CT Exterior Paving is our high-performance concrete alternative, specifically engineered for external industrial and commercial applications. This is a robust, steel-fiber-reinforced concrete slab designed to withstand the harshest outdoor conditions. It provides a rigid, load-bearing surface that outperforms tarmac in every critical metric—durability, load capacity, weather resistance, and longevity. Whether you need a lorry park, container storage area, access roads, or a heavy-duty yard, our exterior paving delivers a permanent solution that will not rut, soften, or degrade over time. And here is the key advantage: the CT Exterior Paving is competitively priced with tarmac. When you factor in tarmac's ongoing maintenance costs and shorter lifespan, our concrete paving actually delivers superior lifetime value—often at a lower cost over the long term. The CT Exterior Paving is the ideal choice for any operation that requires durable, high-load-bearing external surfaces. We serve a wide range of sectors, including: Logistics and Distribution: Lorry parks, trailer staging areas, container stacking yards, and access roads for heavy goods vehicles. Manufacturing and Industrial Plants: External storage areas, raw material yards, and service roads for fork trucks and heavy plant equipment. Construction and Aggregates: Hardstanding for plant machinery, material storage, and site compound areas that endure extreme point loads. Waste and Recycling Facilities: Heavy-duty pavements for refuse collection vehicles, skip handling, and processing plant access. Retail and Commercial: Customer car parks, service vehicle access, and delivery bay areas that require a clean, professional, and low-maintenance surface. Ports and Airports: Cargo handling areas, apron parking, and heavy-load transit zones where tarmac would fail under the weight of container handlers and aircraft ground support equipment." Choosing the CT Exterior Paving delivers immediate and long-term advantages for your external hardstanding: Superior Load-Bearing Capacity: Concrete is rigid and distributes heavy point loads far more effectively than flexible tarmac. Our steel-fiber-reinforced mix eliminates the rutting, deformation, and potholing that plagues tarmac yards under constant HGV and plant traffic. Weather Resistance: Unlike tarmac, which softens in summer heat and becomes brittle in winter, concrete maintains its structural integrity across all temperature extremes. It also resists freeze-thaw damage, ensuring a stable surface year-round. Chemical and Fuel Resistance: Tarmac dissolves and softens when exposed to diesel, oil, and hydraulic fluid spills. Our concrete paving is inherently resistant to these chemicals, protecting your surface from costly degradation. Low Maintenance, Long Lifespan: Tarmac requires regular resealing, patching, and resurfacing every 5-10 years. A properly installed concrete pavement can last 30 years or more with minimal maintenance—dramatically reducing your total cost of ownership. Competitive Initial Cost: Our CT Exterior Paving is priced to be directly competitive with tarmac on initial installation. When you factor in tarmac's ongoing maintenance and earlier replacement, concrete becomes the clearly superior investment. Clean, Professional Appearance: Concrete provides a light, bright surface that improves visibility and safety in external areas. It does not stain or discolor like tarmac, maintaining a professional look throughout its service life. Environmentally Sustainable: Concrete is highly recyclable at end of life, and its light color reduces the urban heat island effect compared to dark tarmac surfaces."
