Industrial Flooring

CT Steel Fibres

For industrial concrete flooring, traditional reinforcement methods—rebar and steel mesh—have long been the standard. While effective, they come with inherent limitations: they are labour-intensive to install, create potential weak points at joints and laps, and can be difficult to position correctly within the slab depth. The CT Steel Fibres are our advanced concrete reinforcement solution, designed to be used alongside traditional rebar and steel mesh to deliver superior crack control, enhanced durability, and improved structural performance.

Our steel fibres are high-quality, hooked-end or crimped fibres manufactured from cold-drawn wire, engineered to be uniformly dispersed throughout the concrete mix. When added during, these fibres create a three-dimensional, random distribution of reinforcement within the entire slab volume. This provides what traditional reinforcement cannot—micro-crack control at every point of the slab, significantly enhancing the concrete's post-crack performance and structural integrity.

The CT Steel Fibres are the ideal reinforcement solution for any industrial floor that demands exceptional durability, crack control, and load-bearing performance. We serve a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Industrial Warehousing and Distribution:

    • High-traffic floors subjected to constant forklift movement, heavy pallet loads, and point loads from racking systems.

  • Manufacturing and Production Plants:

    • Facilities with heavy machinery, dynamic loads, and vibration that can cause cracking and structural fatigue.

  • Logistics and Transport Hubs:

    • Lorry parks, container yards, and loading bays that endure extreme static and dynamic loads from heavy goods vehicles.

  • Cold Storage and Freezer Rooms:

    • Environments subject to thermal contraction and expansion, where temperature-induced cracking is a significant risk.

  • External Hardstanding and Paving:

    • External concrete areas exposed to freeze-thaw cycles, heavy traffic, and ground movement, where enhanced crack control is essential.

  • Heavy Engineering and Foundries:

    • Floors subject to extreme impact, thermal shock, and heavy point loads from plant equipment.

  • Data Centres and Critical Facilities:

    • Floors that require exceptional structural stability and crack control to protect sensitive equipment and maintain stringent flatness tolerances.

Incorporating CT Steel Fibres into our concrete delivers a range of significant and measurable benefits:

  • Superior Crack Control:

    • Unlike rebar and mesh, which only provide reinforcement at specific locations within the slab, steel fibres are dispersed throughout the entire concrete volume. This provides three-dimensional crack control, effectively managing micro-cracking at its source and preventing it from developing into structural cracks.

  • Enhanced Post-Crack Performance:

    • When cracking does occur, the hooked-end fibres bridge the crack, transferring load across it and preventing separation. This significantly improves the slab's post-crack ductility and load-bearing capacity, ensuring the floor remains functional even after cracking.

  • Improved Joint Performance:

    • Steel fibres can be used to reduce joint spacing, allowing for longer slab panels with fewer joints. Alternatively, they can eliminate the need for dowel bars at joints, reducing construction complexity and long-term joint maintenance issues.

  • Increased Durability and Impact Resistance:

    • The addition of steel fibres significantly enhances the concrete's resistance to impact, abrasion, and fatigue. This is particularly beneficial in high-traffic areas and environments subject to dropped loads or heavy equipment movement.

  • Reduced Labour and Installation Time:

    • Unlike rebar and mesh, which require manual placement, tying, and positioning, steel fibres are simply added to the concrete mix at the batching plant. This reduces on-site labour requirements, speeds up installation, and eliminates the risk of reinforcement being displaced during pouring.

  • Elimination of Edge Lifting:

    • Traditional rebar and mesh can be prone to inadequate cover, leading to corrosion and spalling at slab edges. Steel fibres are uniformly distributed and provide consistent reinforcement throughout, eliminating this risk.

  • Reduced Slab Thickness:

    • In many applications, the enhanced structural performance provided by steel fibres can allow for a reduction in slab thickness compared to traditional reinforcement alone, delivering significant material cost savings.

  • Improved Safety:

    • By minimising cracking and surface deterioration, steel fibres reduce trip hazards and maintain a smooth, level surface for safe forklift and pedestrian operation.

  • Long-Term Cost Savings:

    • The enhanced durability, reduced maintenance, and extended service life provided by steel fibre reinforcement deliver exceptional whole-life value, far outweighing the initial material cost.
